Pioneer Day Roping - September 30, 2006
at the Paso Robles Event Center

Pioneer Roping Another Huge Success

Pioneer Day roping ran smoother than ever, I never heard even one complaint!  With Colleen Enk announcing 466 teams,  Bronc Pryor flagging, and San Luis Obispo Cattlewomen, Fran Tognazinni, Colleen Hayes, Jill Heely, Cheryl Gay Rambo, Carla Young,  Chris Jennings, Joanie Ketcham, Vicki Jansen, Eleanor Trucchio, Tricia Goldstein,  Nattie Skelton, Skyler Skelton and Nola Twisselman, doing their jobs fantastically.  I didn’t have my usual family chute crew and was quite concerned about help up to the last week when Rowly and Jorge Martinez said they had it handled….whew.  I believe Jorge had all seven of his children working and they did a great job….thanks.

As you know the San Luis Obispo County Cattlewomen produce this roping and all proceeds go for scholarships.  So I would like to thank the community for their generosity, starting with Nola and Darrell Twisselman,   Karl and Cindy Wittstrom, Scott and Melody Hutchins, Craig and Kalee Pritchard,  Joe Battaglia.

Bill Wineman from Santa Maria won the saddle again, second year in a row, beating Danny Fleming by placing twice in the last roping.  And our very special Jan Davis was third in line, winning both the #9, #10 and placing in the #13.  A very special thank you to Jack and Phoebe Cooke for sponsoring the saddle.

Winners of the #9 Don Loftus/ Dawson Brooks Memorial were Jan Davis and Charlie Daughtery.  Sponsors of the buckles being Kathy Loftus Family, Joanie Ketcham Family, Nancy, Ely, Larry and Joan Brooks and Twisselman Grain & Cattle.

Winners of the #10 Joe Battaglia Family roping, sponsored by Joe and Karen Battaglia Family, were AGAIN  Jan Davis and Charlie Daughtery.

The All Girl team of  Cathie Twisselman and Heidi Sill walked away with the beautiful Gist buckles, sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Co. Sheriffs Dept.

The Lil’ Cowpoke buckle sponsored by Bob Grant, was won by Jorgie Martinez, assisted by his father Jorge Martinez.  They are not only great chute help but are champions too!!  His sisters were so excited they helped me present the buckle.

The #12 Handicap Brown Bermudez Memorial roping, was won by Billy Wineman and Danny Fleming.  Danny also placed fourth and fifth in this roping.  Susan and Jerry Diefenderfer and the Bermudez family jointly sponsor these buckles.

Dan Engler and Chad Davis won #13 Alex Madonna / Jim Laing roping.  They received beautiful silver bits sponsored by Flying T Cattle and Mitch Laing, Shelley and True Bright.

#15 Gene Rambo and Matt Silveira Memorial roping was won by Craig Pritchard and Chad Wittstrom. They won silver bits with the Rambo and Silveira family brands on the conchos.  Sponsors, and great help, Cheryl Gay and Barbara Rambo,  Tony, Mike and Linda Silveira, Matt’s son Justin Silveira and Lorie Silveira.

Please remember the following sponsors when you do business, they too help us pay all the expenses that go along with this sport…. 3 Brand Cattle Co, Negranti & Sons, Filipponi & Thompson Drilling, Farm Supply, PR Ford, Lincoln & Mercury, Beverley Wood,  Buttonwillow Land & Cattle, San Luis Obispo Sheriffs Dept. and Farm Credit West.
